In considering Dan Meyer's arguments, I don't really agree with him. At all. It's all about finding the "right" photo to enhance the text. Adding audio would detract from the power of the photo. If the issue is more about stock photos-- whatever. I use the Creative Commons a lot when searching for images I can use. I like the 'real' factor more than stock.
IMO, sometimes the photo doesn't even need any text. Whether the photo is used in the classroom or a presentation- let the participants make their own discoveries and form their own understanding. I hate being spoon-fed points from a presenter. Show the photo, provide a minute or two to process, and then discuss. Simple but effective.
Give me a powerful image, limited or no text, and then provide me the courtesy of using my brain.
